The memorial plaque reads:" The Swedish author August
Strindberg (1849-1912) lived in this buildnig, then Hotel
Orfila, between Februari and July 1896, a critical period of his
life.
' My friends Orfila and Swedenborg protect, encorurage, and punish
me. I do not se them, but I feel their presence. They do not
appear to me in my imagination, nor in visions or hallucinations, but through small daily occurrences I notice their
intervention in the vicissitudes of my life.'
